＜Evolutionary Genomics Unit＞】
Exchange of views on sex chromosome and genome research and laboratory tours
On January 9th and 10th, 2024, I visited the laboratories of Associate Professor Tom Bourguignon, who heads the Evolutionary Genomics Unit, along with graduate student, Simon Hellemans, and Associate Professor Filip Husnik, who heads the Evolutionary, Cellular, and Symbiotic Unit, at OIST. During the visit, we exchanged ideas and gathered information on recent research related to the evolution of sex chromosomes and genomics. I first met both researchers in 2020 during a VR conference as part of the Kyoto University and OIST Joint Program. It was a great benefit to finally be able to meet face-to-face for the first time in four years, and to be able to casually discuss the possibility of collaborative research over coffee and lunch. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to L-insight for giving me this valuable opportunity.

During my visit to OIST, I had the opportunity to discuss with Dr. Samuel Ross about the OKEON monitoring project. I also participated in a seminar on wildlife acoustic monitoring by Dr. Becky Heath from the University of Cambridge, where I was able to exchange ideas and opinions. OIST is an international institution with a wonderful research environment, and I was greatly stimulated by the discussions. I would like to express my gratitude to L-INSIGHT for providing me with this valuable opportunity to visit OIST.
